In The Know with Gino…

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre is making waves both on stage and off by launching a community-driven effort to craft an environmentally conscious set for their upcoming production of “SpongeBob the Musical“. In a bid to promote sustainability and creativity, the theater is seeking donations of recycled materials from local residents and businesses.

Inspired by the show’s themes of environmental awareness, the theatre plans to transform everyday items into the vibrant, underwater world of Bikini Bottom. They are requesting specific recycled items such as tires, metal oil drums, colorful soda bottles, whiskey barrels, small wooden crates, and metal buckets or pails.

Large items should be delivered to the theater’s loading dock, while smaller donations can be dropped off at the Box Office inside the Circle Theatre Lobby.

Donors are encouraged to ensure items like soda bottles are clean before donation, and all contributions will be used to bring the whimsical world of SpongeBob to life on stage. The theater emphasizes that only listed items will be accepted and invites questions via email at megann@theatrecentre.com.

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre’s initiative underscores a broader movement within the arts community to embrace eco-friendly practices. By turning recycled materials into theatrical magic, the theatre continues its tradition of fostering community engagement and environmental stewardship.

The production of “SpongeBob The Musical” is set to premiere later this season at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, located at 400 River Street. Community members interested in supporting this innovative project are encouraged to participate by donating materials and contributing to a greener, more sustainable theatre experience.
