“In The Know with Gino”…

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Humane Educational Society (HES) in Chattanooga is urging everyone to open their hearts and homes to a furry friend in need. In a bid to find forever homes for their longest residents, HES is hosting a special adoption event on February 14th, 2024.

Dubbed “Lonely Hearts Day,” the event aims to highlight animals that have been in the shelter’s care for over 90 days. To encourage adoptions, the adoption fees for these Lonely Hearts will be waived entirely. Additionally, all other animals will have a reduced adoption fee of only $14, excluding puppies under 6 months of age.

Currently, HES has 27 Lonely Hearts animals either on-site or in foster care that qualify for free adoption on Valentine’s Day. Among them is Arizona, the shelter’s longest resident, who has been patiently waiting for a home for over 1,000 days.

For those unable to participate on Valentine’s Day, HES is extending their generosity throughout the rest of the month. Adoption fees for all animals (excluding puppies) will be reduced to $29.

To participate in the event or to view available animals for adoption, interested individuals can visit HES’s website at www.heschatt.org/adopt. Those looking to support HES’s efforts can also sign up for fostering or make a donation through the organization’s website.

HES operates Tuesday through Saturday from 12pm to 5pm and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. The Humane Educational Society, an independent 501(c) animal shelter, serves approximately 4,500 homeless pets each year. In addition to adoptions, the organization provides animal protection services, community vaccine clinics, youth educational programs, volunteer and foster opportunities, and more.
