Grammy-winning R&B star D’Angelo died earlier this week after a, quote, “prolonged and courageous battle with cancer.” He was only 51 years old.
D’Angelo helped spearhead the neo soul movement with his 1995 debut album “Brown Sugar”.
Then he won Grammys for his next album, 2000’s “Voodoo”, as well as the single “Untitled (How Does It Feel)”.
He wouldn’t release another album until “Black Messiah” in 2014, but he won a pair of Grammys for it. His last recording was “I Want You Forever” with Jay-Z, for the movie “The Book of Clarence”.
D’Angelo also collaborated with other artists, including Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Questlove, and he was working on a new album before his death.
