Alaska Airlines Has Created a Coffee That “Tastes Better in the Sky”
Airlines are NOT known for having gourmet coffee onboard. In fact, some studies say you should AVOID coffee and tea, because they use water from the plane’s water tanks, which aren’t always cleaned properly.
But Alaska Airlines has announced a new onboard coffee, which they claim “tastes better in the sky.”
It’s a “custom blend” with Stumptown Coffee Roasters out of Portland…and it was specifically designed for drinking in a plane.
They say that coffee usually tastes bitter and weak… partially because your sense of smell is impacted by the dry air of a pressurized cabin, and smell is very important to your sense of taste. So they really punched up the flavor.
They say the coffee has strong notes that “taste like marshmallows, browned butter, and toffee… as well as a ‘delicate hint’ of citrus oils and cherry essence.” This delivers a “more complex taste,” when consumed in the air.
The new coffee will be exclusively served on every Alaska flight by December 1st. It’ll replace Alaska’s current coffee, which is Starbucks.
