3-Year-Old Indian Boy Sets Record As Youngest Rated Chess Player

Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha from India has made chess history by becoming the youngest player ever to receive an official International Chess Federation rating. At 3 years, 7 months, and 20 days old, he defeated five of eight rated opponents to earn his FIDE ranking. This breaks the previous record held by a fellow child who was a month older when he received his rating in November 2024. His father Siddharth Singh told The Indian Express, “We pushed him into chess last year because we noticed his mind was a sponge and he would pick up things very quickly.” He called the achievement “a matter of great pride and honor for us” and hopes his son eventually becomes a grandmaster.
