Director Michael Bay has been criminally charged in Italy for allegedly killing a pigeon while filming the 2019 Netflix movie 6 Underground in 2018. The incident reportedly occurred when a homing pigeon was struck by a dolly during filming. Bay denies the allegations, stating “I am a well-known animal lover and major animal activist. No animal involved in the production was injured or harmed.” He claims to have “clear video evidence, a multitude of witnesses, and safety officers that exonerates us from these claims.” A paparazzo allegedly photographed the incident and reported it to Italian authorities. Pigeons are protected under Italian and European law, making harming them a criminal offense. Bay rejected a settlement offer requiring him to pay a small fine, saying “I would not plead guilty to having harmed an animal.” He said “I am confident we will prevail when I have my day in court.” (Story URL)
