The 2026 Winter Olympics are officially done, and Team USA did VERY well. 12 gold medals is the most we’ve EVER won at the winter games.
We snagged six more medals in the final weekend:
Kaillie Humphries and Jasmine Jones won bronze in two-woman bobsled. (Full Story)
Speed skater Corinne Stoddard snagged bronze in the women’s 1,500-meter short-track. (Full Story)
And Mia Manganello won bronze in the women’s speed skating mass start event. (Full Story)
Meanwhile, we snagged two golds in freestyle skiing: Alex Ferreira won the men’s halfpipe, and Team USA took gold in mixed team aerials. (Full Story)
Then yesterday, the U.S. men’s hockey team beat Canada to win gold for the first time in 46 YEARS. The last time was the famous “Miracle on Ice” game against the Soviet Union in 1980. (Full Story)
Final medal count: Norway topped all other nations again with 41 medals, 18 of them gold. Over a third of their golds came in cross-country skiing. Norway also led in golds and overall medals in 2022 and 2018.
Team USA placed second with 33 medals and 12 golds. The old record was 10 at the Salt Lake City games in 2002.
A few more stats to wrap things up: Team USA’s best sport this time was freestyle skiing with eight medals, three of them gold. Speed skating was next at five and two. We also dominated in hockey, with the men AND women winning gold.
Speed skater Jordan Stolz was the only American to win three medals, two of them gold. Seven other U.S. athletes won two apiece. The only other American with multiple golds this time was figure skater Alysa Liu.
American women beat the men again! Female athletes won 17 medals this time, including six golds. The men managed 12 and four. Our other four medals came in mixed events.
