With less than a week left of the Summer Olympics, Team USA finally passed China for the sole lead in golds yesterday.

Women’s wrestler Amit Elor dominated in her gold-medal match, and we snagged two more golds in track-and-field:  Underdog Cole Hocker won the men’s 1500-meter race, and Gabby Thomas won the women’s 200-meter.

We also grabbed a silver in women’s hammer throw, a bronze in men’s boxing, and two more bronze medals in track-and-field.

We entered yesterday tied with China at 21 golds, but they only tacked on one more.  So here’s how the standings looked going into today…

Team USA entered the day leading with 24 golds, China, 22, Australia, 14, France, 13, and Great Britain, 12.

We also moved further ahead in the overall medal count with 86, then China with 59.
