Red Bank Public Art Board Seeks Local Artists for Traffic Signal Box Project

The Red Bank Public Art Board is inviting local artists to participate in the first phase of its Traffic Signal Box Project, aimed at beautifying four traffic signal boxes around the city. This artistic endeavor will explore the theme “Our Southern Birds,” inspired by the work of local historical figure Emma Bell Miles from 1919.

The selected artworks will be installed on the following traffic signal boxes throughout Red Bank:

  • 2303 Dayton Blvd. & Memorial Ave.
    Size: Large (36″ x 18″ x 51″)
  • 3925 Dayton Blvd. & Morrison Springs.
    Size: Large (44″ x 26.5″ x 56″)
  • 1900 Dayton Blvd. & Hedgewood Dr.
    Size: Large (44″ x 26.5″ x 56″)
  • Signal Mtn. Rd. & Dayton Blvd.
    Size: Large (44″ x 26.5″ x 56″)

Important Dates:

  • Designs submitted by: July 23, 2024
  • Selection of winning designs: July 24, 2024
  • Notification to artists: July 31, 2024
  • Installation of artwork: August – September 2024
  • Resolution to Commission: August 6th or 20th
  • Dedication of projects: September – October 2024

The Red Bank Public Art Board will judge the submissions and decide the best location for each selected artwork. Each winning artist will receive a $500 stipend after the Red Bank Commission approves the project resolution.

This project not only aims to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal but also to celebrate the local heritage and natural beauty as depicted in Miles’ work. Local artists are encouraged to let their creativity soar and contribute to this exciting community initiative.
