Hits 96’s ‘Running of the Chihuahuas’ Takes a Strategic “Paws”, Set to Return Bigger in 2027

Hits 96 announces that its beloved annual event, the Running of the Chihuahuas, will be taking a one-year “paws” in 2026, with exciting plans for a highly anticipated return in 2027.

After careful consideration, the decision was made due to a combination of rising expenses and strained resources. Rather than move forward with an event that wouldn’t fully meet the high standards and community expectations that Running of the Chihuahuas has proudly built over the years, the Hits 96 team has chosen to ‘paws’, regroup, and refocus.

“This event means so much to our listeners, partners, and the community,” said Gino D, Hits 96 Afternoon Drive Host and Emcee of ROTC. “We’re incredibly proud of what Running of the Chihuahuas represents, and we want to ensure that when it returns, it does so in a way that’s even bigger, better, and more impactful than ever before.”

Since its inception, Running of the Chihuahuas has become a fan-favorite celebration, bringing together pet lovers, local businesses, and families for a day of fun, laughter, and
unforgettable moments. Hits 96 remains committed to preserving that energy and experience—and enhancing it for the future.

Planning for the 2027 return is already underway, and Hits 96 is actively seeking community partners, sponsors, and organizations interested in being part of the next chapter of this signature event.
