In The Know with Gino…

The Salvation Army in Chattanooga continues its essential work supporting the community’s most vulnerable members, but rising demand has left its food pantry critically low on supplies. As the number of families and individuals seeking assistance grows, the organization’s resources are stretched thin, threatening the continuity of its vital food programs.

Currently, the pantry is nearly empty, with no sufficient stock of shelf-stable, nutritious items to distribute. Each day, staff serve approximately 25 households, totaling around 50 families per week, providing at least three days’ worth of meals. However, due to limited supplies, case managers are turning people away, unable to meet the increasing need.

For those experiencing homelessness, the Salvation Army offers high-protein, non-perishable snacks that help sustain them throughout the day. But with the current inventory depleted, the organization is unable to fulfill even these basic support needs.

Community support is urgently needed to replenish the pantry’s stock. Donations of long-lasting, nutritious items such as canned goods, packaged proteins, peanut butter, nuts, and granola bars are particularly helpful. Items that require no cooking are preferred for the unhoused population. Monetary donations are also welcomed, allowing case managers to purchase necessary supplies.

Efforts to support local families and individuals rely heavily on community generosity. Donations can be dropped off at the organization’s headquarters located at 800 McCallie Avenue. Financial contributions can be mailed to PO Box 3359, Chattanooga, TN 37404, or made online through CSARMY.ORG.

Community members are encouraged to contribute today to ensure that the Salvation Army can continue providing this critical support to those in need.
