The City of Soddy-Daisy and the KELCURT Foundation are set to inaugurate their inaugural community garden, a beacon of greenery and camaraderie poised to enrich the local landscape and foster communal bonds. Tomorrow, April 13th, at 11 a.m., marks the grand opening of this long-awaited initiative, located at 10848 Dayton Pike.

Spanning a generous 576 square feet, the garden boasts 12 full-access beds alongside two thoughtfully crafted wheelchair-accessible plots, ensuring inclusivity for all members of the community. Festivities will commence with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the KELCURT Community Garden, followed by guided tours of the verdant expanse. Musical enchantment awaits attendees, courtesy of the Ukelear Fusion Group, while delectable treats promise to tantalize taste buds, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.

This collaborative endeavor owes its realization to the generous support of various entities. The KFC Foundation, through its Kentucky Fried Wishes Grant, played a pivotal role in bringing the project to fruition. Gratitude permeates the air towards the City of Soddy-Daisy – Government for leasing the land and facilitating essential infrastructure such as water lines. A special commendation is reserved for the public works crew whose dedication saw the leveling of land and the drilling of post holes, underscoring their indispensable contribution.

The heartfelt appreciation extends to the legion of volunteers whose tireless efforts culminated in the garden’s construction. Their selflessness ensures that the community has a nurturing space to cultivate fresh produce and vibrant flora, enriching lives in multifaceted ways.

Furthermore, the unwavering support from benefactors such as the Tennessee Valley Authority, WoodmenLife, the Team Scheeres Legacy Fund, and Lindsey Davis in honor of Don & Kathy Maxwell, has been instrumental. Their sponsorship of garden beds facilitates the sustenance of vital services, including water provision, mowing, and property maintenance, ensuring the garden’s sustained vitality.

As the garden prepares to unfurl its petals and welcome the community, anticipation swells for the promising future that lies ahead. Residents are encouraged to partake in the festivities, embarking on a journey of discovery and camaraderie amidst nature’s embrace. With the support of enthusiastic sponsors and eager volunteers, the KELCURT Community Garden stands as a testament to the power of collective endeavor, poised to bloom as a symbol of growth, unity, and shared prosperity.
