The Chattanooga Lookouts and the Bessie Smith Cultural Center’s annual Negro League Appreciation Weekend at AT&T Field, in partnership with Food City, is set for this upcoming weekend. This two-day celebration will take place on Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15 during the Lookouts games against the Montgomery Biscuits.
On Friday night, the team will shoot off postgame fireworks and on Saturday the team will give out Chattanooga Choo-Choo’s commemorative lunch boxes to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.
On Negro League Appreciation Weekend, the Lookouts will wear Chattanooga Choo-Choo jerseys to honor the minor league Negro League team that played at Engel Stadium from 1940 – 1946. The two games between the Choo-Choos and the Biscuits will also feature appearances from former Negro League players. Joining your Lookouts will be Alfonsa Holt, Charles White, Russell “Crazy Legs” Patterson, Ferdinand “Chico” Rutledge and Negro League Historian Dr. Revel. On each night the Negro League alumni will be honored and available for autographs before the game.
