The Howard School recently marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its new turf football field, a tribute to esteemed alumnus and NFL Hall of Famer Reggie White. This event drew enthusiastic support from the community as the school celebrated another step forward in enhancing its athletic facilities.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Saturday, honoring White, who made a tremendous impact both on and off the field before his untimely passing in 2004. His parents, Charles and Thelma White, along with other family members, were present to commemorate their son’s enduring legacy.
The newly christened field is part of a larger $10 million investment initiative by the county aimed at improving resources and infrastructure at The Howard School. The facility is set to offer athletes a modern and well-equipped space to train and compete for years to come.
The excitement in the air was palpable as the new turf was put to the test during a game against Brainerd, drawing a crowded stadium eager to witness the inaugural match on the field dedicated to one of Howard’s most celebrated graduates.
Mayor Weston Wamp attended the ceremony and underscored the county’s commitment to supporting educational institutions.
As The Howard School continues to evolve and expand, this new addition symbolizes not just a tribute to Reggie White but also a commitment to nurturing the talents of future generations.
Hits 96’s Friday Night Lights will be closing out our season at Howard School on October 25th for their game against Central.
