The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) has announced a significant enhancement to its campus safety infrastructure through a new partnership with 911Cellular. This collaboration introduces an advanced emergency notification and incident management system designed to improve communication and response during crises.
A key component of this initiative is the launch of Safe@UTC, a comprehensive safety smartphone application available for FREE on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app offers students, faculty, and staff quick access to vital safety resources, including an emergency contact button that connects directly to UTC Police, anonymous reporting of suspicious activity, and options to request Safe Walk or Safe Ride services. Additionally, the app provides rapid access to campus information and safety tips.
The new system enhances emergency response capabilities by providing real-time situational awareness for responders. Features such as precise location data, shared maps, and incident-specific alerts enable security teams to coordinate more efficiently and act swiftly in critical situations.
UTC officials emphasized that the integration of 911Cellular’s technology and the Safe@UTC App signifies a major step forward in campus safety. The tools are tailored to meet the specific needs of the university community, aiming to prevent emergencies and improve response times.
Beyond the app, UTC is expanding its safety options for employees through the deployment of wearable, computer-based, and wall-mounted panic buttons. These devices connect directly with campus security, facilitating coordinated responses during emergencies.
