A lot of people like the IDEA of having greens on their burger… but in practice, it’s generally an afterthought.
Wendy’s is making a change though… for better or worse. They are now in the process of quietly switching from whole-leafed romaine lettuce to shredded iceberg lettuce for its burgers and chicken sandwiches.
The switch began at select locations this summer… and is slowly rolling out across the country.
Wendy’s claims the change was made to “improve lettuce consistency and maintain a reliable supply.” The romaine was “hand-leafed at each location” …while the shredded iceberg lettuce will arrive prepared in bags, so there’s a convenience factor as well.
This lettuce change will NOT affect their salads, which will continue to be prepared with romaine or spring mix.
