Assistant Chief Jonathan Bryant and Major Tim Tomisek journeyed to the state capital to participate in honoring Tennessee’s fallen officers. Tragically, this year’s remembrance included one of Chattanooga’s own, Sergeant James “Mike” Russ, whose name was added to the state memorial.

Assistant Chief Bryant reflected on the solemn occasion, emphasizing the profound impact of Sgt. Russ’ service and sacrifice. “It provides each of us with a sobering reminder of the noble profession we have been called to and the importance placed upon each and every one of us to memorialize fallen officers’ legacies,” Bryant expressed. He underscored that Sgt. Russ’ legacy extends beyond the engraving on the state memorial, resonating in the life he led and the service he rendered to the Chattanooga community.

The Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony forms part of National Police Week, an annual event dedicated to honoring the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers nationwide. Chattanooga residents are encouraged to join in commemorating the local fallen officers at the designated ceremony location on Market Street. The event commences at 10 a.m. and serves as a poignant reminder of the dedication and valor displayed by law enforcement personnel in safeguarding their communities.
