A Flight Had to Turn Around Over the Pacific Because a Pilot Forgot His Passport

A United Airlines flight from L.A. to Shanghai had to turn around over the Pacific on Saturday because a PILOT forgot his passport. The flight is already a 14-hours so imagine being told the plane is turning around about an hour and 45 minutes in and then flying to San Francisco to swap out the crew.

After landing in San Fran, the passengers were there for about three hours after taking off from L.A. Passengers were told there’d been a “crew-related issue,” but didn’t learn about the missing passport until later. They waited around for five hours before finally taking off again. They ended up landing in Shanghai about six hours late.

United did compensate the passengers with a massive $15 meal voucher for the inconvenience.
