Beer Sales Lowest Since 1999

Chattanooga, Tennessee—(Pulse)
Beer sales in the United States are the lowest they’ve been since 1999. Sales declined more than 5% in 2023, with Anheuser-Busch’s Bud Light in particular seeing a steep drop.
However, it does not seem like alcohol-drinkers are replacing Bud Light with competing beers.
Millennials and Gen Zers tend to swap beer for alcohol-infused beverages like cocktails, or abstain from drinking entirely.
“This is an industry-wide, five-alarm fire,” Craig Purser of the National Beer Wholesalers Association said.
