The 2023 NAACP Image Awards were held on Saturday (February 25th), hosted by Queen Latifah and broadcasted live on BET. Angela Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Abbott Elementary were the evening's big winners.

Bassett accepted the award for Entertainer of the Year during the live ceremony and referenced Ariana DeBose's rap at the BAFTAs. "I guess Angela Bassett did the thing," she said. She also thanked Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler, saying he "showed us that we are royalty and he built the crown for us all to wear." Bassett took home Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her work on 9-1-1 as well.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won Best Motion Picture, taking home eight wins overall. Abbott Elementary was the big winner for television, winning Best Comedy Series and taking home six awards in total.

Despite being snubbed by the Oscars, Viola Davis won Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in The Woman King, a movie that she said was "nothing but high-octane bravery."

Will Smith won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his work in Emancipation. He took to Instagram on Saturday (February 26th) to thank the NAACP. "WOW!! NAACP!! I am absolutely humbled by this!!" he wrote.

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade were honored with the prestigious President's Award. Wade paid tribute to his trans daughter Zaya, who legally changed her name on Friday (February 24th). "I want to take this moment to publicly speak to our daughter Zaya. Zaya, as your father, all I've wanted to do is get it right. I have sat back and watched how gracefully you've taken on the public scrutiny. And even though it's not easy, I've watched you walk out of the house every morning as yourself," he said. "I admire how you've handled the ignorance in our world. To say that your village is proud of you is an understatement."

Brian Austin Green took to his Instagram stories over the weekend to share his side of the story regarding his ex-fiancé Vanessa Marcil's recent co-parenting claims.

During a Q&A on her Instagram stories, a fan asked Marcil about her experience co-parenting her 20-year-old son, Kassius, with Green. "We didn't & don't co-parent. I raised my son alone," Marcil said.

Following this, Green shared a screenshot of Marcil's comment to his Instagram stories. "So, I can't tell you how frustrating it is to read continued lies from a 50+ year old woman on social media like she is still in high school," he wrote.

The 90210 star continued, bringing his ex-wife Megan Fox into the picture as well. "She has never in her life been someone to walk the walk. Talk is cheap. Megan and I bust our asses to give Kass a well rounded childhood since his mom was rarely there. I'm assuming that's why she posts so much of him now. When will she just GO AWAY."

On Sunday (February 26th), family and friends honored Olivia Newton-John during a state memorial service held at the Hamer Hall in Arts Centre in Melbourne, Australia. Stars such as Pink, Elton John, Mariah Carey, and Nicole Kidman shared video tributes to the late actress and singer.

Newton-John's husband, John Easterling, and her daughter, Chloe Rose Lattanzi, gave emotional speeches during the live-stream.

"My heart is broken in two, the other half is with my mama. I know she's holding it for me until we meet again," Lattanzi said. "I stand here before you so desperately, wanting to feel strong and confident and speak eloquently, but the truth is I feel like a little girl lost without her mother."

She added, "I know she's here, standing beside me and within me. I can hear her voice, saying, 'You're safe, my darling. Don't be afraid. You're so much stronger than you think. Speak from your heart. That's all you have to do.' "

Ray Liotta received a posthumous Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Friday (February 24th) that his daughter, Karsen, accepted for him. She also read a tribute written by Martin Scorsese during the ceremony.

"I'm sorry that I can't be there in person today for the unveiling of the star for Ray Liotta," the letter read. "After Goodfellas, I always expected that I would work with Ray again. I always thought that he would be there. I still find myself thinking, 'When will Ray and I make another picture?' and then I remember he's gone far too soon. We think we have enough time, but we have no control over our fate."

Liotta was aware of the Walk of Fame honor before he died in his sleep on May 26th, 2022. "It was a huge honor for him and he was proud of himself, as me and my whole family were," Karsen said. "I know it was definitely very special to him and it was a monumental moment in his career."

She added that she was "so touched to be accepting this honor in the name of my dad."

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania held onto the top spot at the domestic box office over the weekend, beating out Cocaine Bear's successful debut. However, Deadline reports that the film saw the biggest drop for an MCU film in its second weekend, falling 69% from last week with $32.2 million.

While Cocaine Bear didn't claim the number one spot, the film did outperform projections, bringing in $23.09 million. Universal's Jim Orr told the outlet, "This is a tremendous debut for Cocaine Bear, an outrageous comedy so well-crafted by director Elizabeth Banks. Audiences across North America were eager to see this original, hysterical film that continues what is shaping up to be a very good year at the domestic box office."

SIMU LIU TEASES ‘SHANG-CHI' MCU CROSSOVER: Simu Liu told People recently that a superhero team-up involving his Shang-Chi character might be here "sooner than you think." Speaking with the outlet at the Academy of Motion Arts & Sciences Sci-Tech Awards on Friday (February 24th), he said, "I'm such a big fan of both the characters and the performers that play them, so any collaboration is an opportunity for me to work alongside someone who, in their own way, is breaking barriers and at the very top of their game." HUGH JACKMAN SAYS HE DAMAGED HIS VOCAL CORDS BY ‘SCREAMING AND YELLING' IN ‘WOLVERINE:' Hugh Jackman told BBC's Front Row in a recent interview that playing Wolverine over the years has affected his voice. "My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be and that I directly put down to some of the growling and yelling," he told the outlet. "My voice teacher in drama school would've been horrified by some of the things I did in Wolverine." WES BENTLEY COMMENTS ON ‘YELLOWSTONE' DRAMA: Yellowstone star Wes Bentley is sharing what he knows about Kevin Costner's rumored scheduling conflicts with Entertainment Weekly. "The news that's come out recently about the show is, you know, it's above my pay grade. Different people making decisions," he said. "I know that they're still working on… working things out with everyone, to make sure we shoot. And I'm confident we will. We always have before. I think it's probably a bit of drama over nothing."

On Thursday (February 23rd), Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 additional years in prison for a rape conviction in Los Angeles. The disgraced Hollywood mogul is currently serving a 23-year term for his sexual assault conviction in New York in 2020.

In December, jurors found Weinstein guilty on three counts in the Los Angeles trial. All counts pertained to a woman referred to as Jane Doe 1, who said Weinstein raped her at her hotel when she was in town for the Los Angeles Italia Film Festival in 2013.

Weinstein was also found not guilty of sexual battery involving another accuser, referred to as Jane Doe 2. Jurors were unable to reach decisions regarding accusations by Jane Doe 3 and Jane Doe 4.

His legal team filed an appeal requesting a new trial, but Superior Court Judge Lisa B. Lench denied the request.

Alec Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to the involuntary manslaughter charges brought against him by New Mexico prosecutors regarding the fatal Rust shooting, which resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. As a result, he will no longer be appearing in court on Friday (February 24th).

A judge declared on Thursday (February 23rd) that the 30 Rock actor is to have limited contact with potential witnesses as Rust plans to resume filming. He is also prohibited from consuming alcohol and possessing weapons, including firearms.

District Judge Mary Marlowe said in a statement, "Defendant is permitted to have contact with potential witnesses only ... in connection with completing the ‘Rust' movie and other related and unrelated business matters; provided, however, that defendant is not permitted to discuss the accident at issue."

A preliminary hearing is expected within a few months.

In an interview with The Face published on Thursday (February 23rd), Halle Bailey commented on the racism she came up against after it was announced she'd be playing Ariel in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

"As a black person, you just expect it and it's not really a shock anymore," she told the outlet. "I never read my comments. Don't ever read the comments."

She added, "I know people are like: 'It's not about race.' But now that I'm her … People don't understand that when you're black there's this whole other community. It's so important for us to see ourselves."

Bailey also shared how moved she was to see Black children reacting to the teaser. "I was crying all night for two days, just staring at them in disbelief," she said. "It makes me feel more grateful for where I am."

The movie is set to premiere on May 26th.

Paris Hilton opened up about a traumatic experience she had when she was a teenager in a new interview with Glamour. The Simple Life star told the outlet that she was drugged and raped by an older man when she was just 15 years old.

Hilton said she met the unidentified man at the Westfield Century City shopping center, where she hung out with her friends "almost every weekend." The House of Wax star said "older guys would always just be hanging around the stores," and that they would "talk to them" and "give them their beeper pager numbers."

One day, Hilton and her friends were "invited" by a group of men over "to their house," where they were given "berry wine coolers." Hilton said she "didn't drink or do anything back then," but one of the guys insisted that she drink one of the wine coolers.

"When I had maybe one or two sips, I just immediately started feeling dizzy and woozy," she said. "I don't know what he put in there; I'm assuming it was a roofie Rohypnol." Later, she recalled having "visions of him on top of me, covering my mouth, being like, ‘You're dreaming, you're dreaming,' and whispering that in my ear."

THE OSCARS PREPARE A ‘CRISIS TEAM' AHEAD OF 2023 SHOW: According to Entertainment Tonight, this year's Academy Awards will have a "crisis team" in place for the first time in the award show's history. This comes in response to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at last year's event. Glen Weiss, executive producer of the March 12th show, told the outlet, "We go in with a really good plan for the known, but you have to be ready for what may transpire with what you didn't plan."

ELLEN POMPEO SAYS GOODBYE TO ‘GREY'S ANATOMY:' Ellen Pompeo starred in her last episode as a series regular on Grey's Anatomy Thursday (February 23rd). According to E! News, Pompeo has played Meredith Grey in over 400 episodes over 19 seasons. Series creator Shonda Rhimes took to Instagram to say farewell to the character. "What a journey these 19 seasons have been!" Rhimes wrote. "Wouldn't trade them (or you) for the world. Beyond excited for your next chapter. See you later, Dr. Grey."

NEW ‘LORD OF THE RINGS' MOVIES ARE IN DEVELOPMENT AT WARNER BROS.: Variety reports that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced during an earnings call Thursday (February 23rd) that "multiple" Lord of the Rings movies are in development. No filmmakers have been named yet, but Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens said in a statement that Warner Bros. and Embracer "have kept us in the loop every step of the way." They added, "We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward."

MEGAN MULLALLY AND NICK OFFERMAN TO JOIN FINAL SEASON OF ‘THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY:' Entertainment Tonight exclusively reports that Parks and Recreation stars Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman will both be joining the cast of The Umbrella Academy for its final season. Mullally and Offerman, who are married in real life, will play "a mild-mannered married couple named Jean and Gene, who are college professors," according to Mullally. She added, "I mean, the deal's not quite closed but let's just pretend it is." The pair are expected to start filming "in a couple of weeks."

Ernie Hudson is reflecting on his time in the original Ghostbusters movie, telling Howard Stern recently that it took him "10 years to get past," as he felt "pushed aside" by the film's studio. Hudson starred as Winston Zeddemore alongside Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Dan Aykroyd in the movie.

"The studio wasn't inclusive, and the studio continued not to be," he said. "So it made it very, very difficult because I was a part of it but then I very selectively was pushed aside … The original script, Winston was in the very beginning of the movie. By the time we got ready to shoot the movie, Winston came in halfway through the movie. All those things … It definitely felt deliberate."

The Crow actor continued, commenting on how he wasn't featured in the movie's posters, despite being one of the four ghostbusters: "When the posters came out, I'm not on the poster. It took a long time. I went to the 30th anniversary release of the movie and all the posters are three guys. Now I know the fans see it differently, and I'm so thankful for the fans because the fans basically identified with Winston — especially young, I don't want to say minority kids, but a lot of kids."

Hudson added, "It took me 10 years to get past that and enjoy the movie and just embrace the movie. ‘Ghostbusters' was really hard to make peace with."

Brian Cox isn't holding back when it comes to Jeremy Strong's approach to acting on Succession. In a new cover story for Town & Country, Cox said, "Oh, it's f—king annoying. Don't get me going on it."

"He's a very good actor," Cox told the outlet. "And the rest of the ensemble is all okay with this. But knowing a character and what the character does is only part of the skill set."

The Troy actor just thinks Strong should be able to step out of character. "He's still that guy, because he feels if he went somewhere else he'd lose it," Cox said. "But he won't! Strong is talented. He's fucking gifted. When you've got the gift, celebrate the gift. Go back to your trailer and have a hit of marijuana, you know?"

This isn't the first time Cox has expressed concern about Strong's method acting. On Late Night With Seth Meyers last year, he said, "I worry about what it does to him, because if you can't separate yourself — because you're dealing with all of this material every day. You can't live in it. Eventually, you get worn out."

Strong addressed this criticism in a British GQ profile published on Tuesday (February 21st). "Everyone's entitled to have their feelings. I also think Brian Cox, for example, he's earned the right to say whatever the f—k he wants," he said.

"I feel a lot of love for my siblings and my father on the show. And it is like a family in the sense that, and I'm sure they would say this, too, you don't always like the people that you love. I do always respect them," Strong added.

Jane Fonda got candid about one of her biggest regrets in life during a recent interview with CNN's Chris Wallace. The 80 for Brady star said she wishes she had been a better mother to her three kids.

"I was not the kind of mother that I wish that I had been to my children," Fonda said. "I have great, great children. Talented. Smart. I just didn't know how to do it."

She added that motherhood feels clearer to her now. "I have an organization in Georgia that deals with adolescents and I've studied parenting. I know what it's supposed to be now. I didn't know then. So I'm trying to show up now."

Jonathan Majors is opening up about why he's often spotted carrying little cups. On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Tuesday (February 21st), the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star said, "I'm 33 years old. I've been doing it since I left my mother's house when I was about 18."

Majors said he has about four cups "in rotation," and he detailed their significance in relationship to his mother. "She was so terrified of the circus that I had joined — showbiz and the circus," he joked. "She was very clear about safety. 'No drinking, no drugs, no sex,' every time I left the house . . . This has happened my entire life. But the drinking was a thing and she'd always say, 'Baby, watch your cup. Watch your glass.'"

The Creed III actor said he carried the cups around so that he "always kept that in mind, for safety," but now the cups are a reminder that, "You are a vessel. Nobody can fill you up, nobody can pour you out — you do that yourself."

He added, "Holding onto this is a reminder that, even in this craziness happening, my self-esteem is my self-esteem. Nobody can make me, nobody can big me up, as it were, or tear me down."

LAWSUIT EXPOSES CHAOS BEHIND BROOKLYN BECKHAM AND NICOLA PELTZ'S WEDDING: Court documents filed by the wedding planners of Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's big day were obtained by Page Six recently, revealing the disarray that occurred behind the scenes. Peltz's father, Nelson Peltz, who is referred to as a "billionaire bully" in the suit, allegedly wanted to "cancel the wedding" and called it "a s–t show." The wedding planners' suit is a countersuit, as Nelson claims they refused to return a $159,000 deposit. BEN PLATT ADDRESSES ANTISEMITIC PROTESTS OUTSIDE OF ‘PARADE' ON BROADWAY: According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Politician actor Ben Platt and the producers of Parade responded to the antisemitic protests that took place on Tuesday (February 21st) outside of the musical's revival on Broadway. According to the outlet, Parade tells the true story of Leo Frank, "a Jewish factory worker in Georgia who was falsely accused of murdering a teenage girl and later lynched by an antisemitic mob." Producers said in a statement, "If there is any remaining doubt out there about the urgency of telling this story in this moment in history, the vileness on display last night should put it to rest." Platt shared a video to Instagram on Tuesday (February 21st), saying the protests were "very ugly and scary," but that he felt "extra grateful to be the one that gets to tell this particular story and to carry on this legacy of Leo."

DON LEMON RETURNS TO CNN FOLLOWING NIKKI HALEY CONTROVERSY: Entertainment Tonight reports that Don Lemon returned to CNN This Morning on Wednesday (February 22nd), after a scheduled absence from the show due to remarks he made about South Carolina governor Nikki Haley. "I appreciate the opportunity to be back on @CNNThisMorning today," Lemon wrote on Twitter. "To my network, my colleagues and our incredible audience -- I'm sorry. I've heard you, I'm learning from you, and I'm committed to doing better. See you soon." Lemon caused controversy by commenting that Haley wasn't "in her prime."

DAVID HARBOUR THINKS IT'S TIME FOR ‘STRANGER THINGS' TO END: David Harbour is ready to say goodbye to Stranger Things. "What's funny is when I started the show, I never ever wanted it to end. That's why I love the show," he said in an interview with Discussing Film. "I think it's a great show, even if I wasn't in it. Now we're almost nine years from filming the first season, and I think it is time for it to end. But it is, of course, very bittersweet. You know, there's a sadness there."

According to Deadline, Harrelson will be joining the "Five Timers Club" after this episode, joining stars like Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake, and Danny DeVito.

Ariana DeBose's rap highlighting women who were nominated at the BAFTAs on Sunday (February 19th) quickly became the talk of the town. In her opening number, the West Side Story actress named Dolly De Leon, Carey Mulligan, and Michelle Yeoh, among others, as a camera panned to their lackluster responses.

The lines getting the most attention from the song are, "Angela Bassett did the thing, Viola Davis my ‘Woman King,' Blanchett Cate you're a genius, Jamie Lee you are all of us."

People can't get enough of clip. "ariana debose you're an oscar winner you don't have to do this i promise," one person wrote on Twitter. Another said, "i love ariana debose but this made me cringe out of my skin."

Following the overwhelming response to her performance, DeBose left Twitter, and one of the show's producers called the criticism she received "incredibly unfair." However, DeBose also seems to be having fun with it, as she commented on a collection of memes shared by writer Evan Ross Katz on Instagram Monday (February 20th). "Honestly I love this," she wrote.

Liam Neeson wasn't thrilled with his time on The View last week. The Taken actor told The Rolling Stone that the segment made him "uncomfortable," as the show's co-hosts repeatedly joked about Joy Behar's crush on him.

One of the panelists said, "Joy wants to get taken by you," and producers even shared a montage of all the times that Behar talked about her crush on the show. In these clips, Behar says things like, "I would just like to have my ashes sprinkled over Liam Neeson."

In response to all of this, Neeson told the publication, "I was in the dressing room drinking a cup of tea, turned the TV up, and I thought, oh, this will be great. They're talking about gun violence in America, and I agree that it's an American problem. I go onstage and join the ladies during the break, and I was congratulating them on this discussion."

"And then our segment starts, and it's just all this BS with Joy and Liam Neeson and having a crush, and I've known Whoopi for years and Joy a little bit, but I just wasn't impressed," he said. "I'm uncomfortable in those situations, you know?"

The Love Actually star added that he had "good, intelligent conversation" with Sunny Hostin following the segment. "But then the segment's all about this thirteen, fourteen-year-old crush. It's just a bit embarrassing."

It's been almost a year since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 94th annual Academy Awards, and the Men in Black star is still reflecting on the shocking turn of events.

On Monday (February 20th), Smith shared a TikTok video of himself set alongside another video by TikTok user @missmoneyworking suggesting a way to make life "interesting and fun." @missmoneyworking says, "It sounds insane, but it will change your life."

"Did you know that you can pick any object? Look at it and ask it what it thinks of you?" the TikToker continues. "So, for example, you can pick up a pen and ask it how it sees you or what it thinks of you, and you will get an answer in your mind from your intuition."

At this prompt, Smith looks pensive for a moment, and then brings out the Oscar he won for Best Actor last year.

Emma Thompson is getting real about the effort that goes in to campaigning for an Academy Award. The Cruella actress told RadioTimes, "Both times I had to do the Oscars, I got seriously ill."

"I found the pressure and glare of it too much," she said. "It's astonishing." Thompson has been nominated for five Academy Awards over the course of her career, and she's taken home two: one in 1993 for Howards End and the other in 1996 for Sense and Sensibility.

The Good Luck To You, Leo Grande actress added, "Afterwards, you want to lie down in a dark room. You think, ‘Please don't ask me any questions or make me talk about myself.' I quickly developed a sort of allergy to that part of the job."
