REM Sleep Lasts Longer In Winter

Chattanooga, Tennessee—(Pulse)
Does it feel like you dream more in the colder months? German researchers have found people get longer REM sleep in winter, even when they’re in cities!
The research team in Berlin studied 292 sleep participants at various times. Total sleep time was about an hour longer in winter, with REM sleep lasting 30 minutes longer.
“Over the winter human physiology is down-regulated, with a sensation of ‘running-on-empty’ in February or March,” Dr. Dieter Kunz said. This information could help influence school and work schedules.
