Ticketmaster Cancels Taylor Swift Ticket Sales After Extraordinarily High Demands

After more than 2 million tickets were sold for Taylor Swift's 2023 Eras tour through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan presale on Tuesday, the ticketing company announced Thursday (11-17) that a planned general sale for all other customers has been canceled.

Ticketmaster stated that it was due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory.

While many fans were able to get tickets on Tuesday, others were left waiting in hours-long Ticketmaster queues that eventually either crashed or sold out. The company later issued a statement about "historically unprecedented demand."

The site was supposed to be opened up for 1.5 million verified Taylor Swift fans and instead had 14 million people hit the site — including bots.

Swift's last concert tour in 2018 sold a total of 2.8 million tickets across 53 global dates and became the highest-grossing U.S. tour of all time. Her upcoming tour features 52 shows in North America alone.

The Eras tour is set to kick off in March in Arizona, and will hit a number of cities across the U.S. before wrapping things up in Los Angeles in August.

More than 90% of the ticketing inventory is already gone, breaking the record Tuesday for the most tickets ever sold in a single day by a touring artist.

It's unclear how the remaining tickets will be distributed or sold.

  • "Wow. Thank you so much. This is so meaningful to me. I want to start by saying that every award that I ever win will always first and foremost be dedicated to the queer community at large. You guys have carved out such a space for me to be myself and to write music about it, and I've never felt safer or more loved and more supported, and I hope I can give you some semblance of that same feeling in my music. On the heels of what happened in Colorado Springs, I want to remind everyone how important queer visibility is and how important our community is. And I want to direct your attention to organizations like Glad and the Trevor project. You encouraged me. And so, I found that the more music I made and the more music I put out, the happier I was. The more I just kept that channel open and just kept creating, kept making things, and the more that happened, the more you guys were like, yeah, keep doing it. And the happier I was, so I have the fans to thank, essentially, for my happiness and -- cheers and applause -- And I love you more than I can say. I cannot express how unbelievable it is to me that I still get to do this and that you still care, so thank you underlined with 13 exclamation points. I don't know what to say. I love you. Bruce, my manager, who is absolutely a dream manager. Lisa, who is actually more of the adult in the room because she has to deal with me. I'm the kid. I'm the child. But what I want to say and take this time to do is to talk to the young superstars. God has given you a light. That light is special. That light is only given to a few. When you hear the word hip, it means today. When you hear the word inspiring, it means forever. If you get a chance to have that light on you, understand what god has in store. He is not trying to tell you that your car looks great, your clothes look great. He's trying -- he/she, mother, God is trying to tell you that you are chosen to inspire. Take this opportunity. That light is on you. Inspire. God bless you all. Thank you very much. Cheers and applause" 1:49 OC...you very much Cheers and applause

Ticketmaster Overwhelmed By 'Historically Unprecedented Demand' For Taylor Swift Tickets

Ticketmaster was so overwhelmed on Tuesday (November 15th), that the Capital One presale for Taylor Swift's Era's Tour has been moved to Wednesday (November 16th).

The company tweeted, "There has been historically unprecedented demand with millions showing up to by tickets for the TaylorSwiftTix Presale," and added, "To provide a smooth experience for cardholders and address the historic demand for tickets, Capital One Cardholder Presale has been rescheduled to Wednesday, 11/16 at 2pm local venue time for all shows."

The increased traffic caused " intermittent issues with the site" and manyfans were stuck in a queue that didn't move for several hours.

Tuesday's presale was even pushed back to from 10am to 3pm for several West Coast dates.

The array of problems had Swifties tweeting that Ticketmaster is a monopoly that should be shut down.

One user wrote, "the crazy thing is that while ticketmaster has a monopoly on the entertainment industry and can do whatever the f**k they want… taylor is one of few artists with enough power and money to actually make them change which is why this is so disappointing"

Dua Lipa's Attorneys Call Copyright Lawsuit 'Speculative' And 'Vague'

Attorneys for Dua Lipa are asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit claiming she stole "Levitating's" hook from a little-known reggae track.

According to Billboard, lawyers say the allegations are "speculative," "vague" and supported by little real evidence.

Earlier this year, Artikal Sound System filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Lipa, claiming that the 2020 Future Nostalgia track rips off their 2017 song "Live Your Life."
